Welcome to Andrew's Hovercraft Web
Sunday the 1st October was the last day the SR.N4 hovercraft "The Princess Margaret" and "The Princess Anne" flew between Dover, England and Calais, France. Having lived near Dover all my life, I have always been fascinated by these amazing craft. It was possible to hear them from my home, as they travelled up the English Channel. I am very sad that the craft have been withdrawn from service. Hoverspeed found that the cost of maintaining and running the craft (how does a fuel consumption of 5000 litres of aircraft kerosine per hour strike you?), plus the small car-carrying capacity of the craft (~50 cars), made the craft uneconomical to run. The craft will be replaced by two "SeaCat" catermarans.
I spent most of the 1st October down on the "Prince of Wales" pier, Western Docks, Dover, videoing and photographing the craft. On these pages you will find the photographs I took on the day, plus any other resources I can find. Enjoy!
Once you have finished browsing this website, may I suggest you visit the Hovercraft Museum Website. It was this site that inspired me to produce my own hovercraft website. I also maintain a Renault 5 website.
